Comprehensive spell guide
Spells are a key, integral part of society in Britannia. It is the strongest offense a person can use, weapons only enhancing said abilities. A spell can be something as simple as lighting a candle, to something much more complicated like summoning a blizzard from nothing. When declaring a main magic type, like Counter-magic or Lightning-magic you will then need to create children techniques that demonstrate the parents' ability. An example would be an Ice-user creating a technique that sends icy shards forward.
There are an infinite amount of magic types and associated spells. The ones that are used in Canon, such as Tempest or Thunderbolt, can be used though custom ones may be used as well. When creating a new spell, we'd like for you to use the following 'template' or sorts.
First, the name is to be bolded and underlined, if it's a different language then provide the translation in parenthesis. Below that, are the Rarity & Mana Cost of the spell in question, which can be referenced here.
There are a few types of techniques. Offensive, Defensive, Healing, Supplementary, Status, or Area-of-Effect (AoE).
An offensive technique is one with a general purpose to hurt someone else. This is the most common of all types to be mentioned.
A defensive technique could form something like a shield, or a wall, or form something like armor, etc. Anything to shield the user from harm is a skill in this tree.
Healing techniques are ones that heal the user, or others, pretty self-explanatory.
Techniques that are supplementary fall into a unique category. They are not quite attacks, yet can't be classified anywhere else. Spells that boost the user in some way, boost another technique, is a catalyst, has other forms, etc. will often be under this tree.
A Status technique inflicts some sort of effect onto their opponent(s). Poisoning, Burning, Paralyzing, Putting to Sleep, Freezing, giving a disease, etc.
Lastly, Area of Effects are essentially Offensive techniques on a much wider scale. These techniques are like meteors either in power, or literally size.
For the sake of this example, we're going to say Ban's abilities all lie under the THIEF mother ability. Snatch is therefore one of the techniques aligned with Thief magic.
Gōdatsu (Snatch)
Rarity: Common
Mana Cost: 20
Type: Supplementary
Description: Utilizing their magic, the user creates a 'line' between their hand(s) and whatever single 'thing' they desire. This spell is versatile, in that it could be used on an object or something like an opponents leg. When tugged, the force is strong much like ten men pulling. In essence, said 'thing' becomes the user's property.
This technique is useful, yes, and it seems unbeatable but it has many flaws the first of many being it's rarity. But regardless, it is just about what common class abilities can live up to. By exerting more mana, you can utilize a world of deadly effects. Hendrickson, under the influence of the Ash-Gray Demon, utilized a few 'Dark' techniques. Let's take a look at the worst of the lot.
Kuroyuki (Dead Snow or Black Snow)
Rarity: EX
Mana Cost: 120
Type: Area of Effect (AOE)
Description: Creating a mass of terrible demon energy in front of them, the user will fill it to the utmost with their malice and magic. Upon completion it will float into the air, before exploding into several hundred smaller black orbs. The whole act of it resembles a snowfall, before the 'flakes' touch anything alive. In an instant they are turned to black as the demonic energy overtakes them within a mere second. This technique is literally a mass homicide.
At the top of Spell food chains this technique, though never ever going to be used, exemplifies the properties of an EX spell. They are the finishers, the techniques that could very well shape the landscape should things get out of hand. Though they shouldn't kill like this technique, many EX techniques can be AoE.
